Bereavement

When a loved one passes away, the home they leave behind holds far more than furniture and belongings. It holds a lifetime. And for families who can't be there, whether through distance, time, or the weight of grief, the only visible option is often a house clearance company that moves fast and asks few questions.

Peace by Piece offers something different. We come to the property, sort through everything carefully, and make sure nothing of value, sentimental, financial or cultural, is overlooked or lost. We call this estate sorting, and it is as thorough and unhurried as the task deserves.

We work with the executor of the estate once probate has been granted, agreeing priorities, timeframes and next steps together. As we sort, we set aside anything that might carry sentimental, cultural or personal significance to the family, items that could easily be overlooked in a standard clearance but that matter. We call these ‘keepsafes’, and nothing in that category leaves the property without your explicit agreement. Items for auction, donation, recycling or disposal are handled through our trusted partner network. If the process is complex or prolonged, we can hold contents in secure storage at Fennridge in Suffolk for as long as needed; nothing is rushed, and nothing leaves without your instruction.

At the end of every job, you receive a clear account of where everything has gone and a full settlement of any costs passed through.

“What happens to all my family's memories and mementos if I can’t be there to curate them?”

— James, Chelmsford, Essex.

Bereavement is complicated

The process has many steps before we can begin and it's our job to understand all of them, so you don't have to. Here's where Peace by Piece fits in.
